Donovan Discs presents the latest release of DONOVAN – a single to commemorate the 30th anniversary of John Lennon’s death on December 8th. The song “Save The World” is available for digital download on iTunes starting today.
Donovan says of this song: “It is as if John wrote this song through me. I wondered what would John write about now. I picked up the guitar and this very ‘John Lennon style’ song came to me. It feels like John wrote it.“
In the New Age jargon, this is called ‘Channeling’, and Donovan is no stranger to esoteric music making. This is not the first time John and Donovan have worked on songs together. When John and Donovan were in India in 1968, Donovan taught John (and Paul and George) new guitar styles and chord progressions that would help create such classics as Dear Prudence, Julia, Blackbird and While My Guitar Gently Weeps.
The proceeds of the single will go to Donovan and his wife Linda’s charity, The David Lynch Foundation, to bring meditation to stressed out children. This is the same TM meditation that Donovan, John, Paul, George and Ringo brought back from India. Donovan, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr headlined the recent concert in Radio City Music Hall New York, ‘CHANGE BEGINS WITHIN”, to raise awareness and funds for The David Lynch Foundation which has brought TM meditation to students worldwide.
A lyric from “Save The World“ reads:
“I call on every boy and girl
Awaken to the inner world
Take the knowledge and the power
Be bold, this is the hour.“
A direct reference, says Donovan, to the proven benefits of TM meditation to develop positive change from within. Donovan adds, “John, Paul, George, Ringo and I confirm in so many of our recordings, that “Change Begins Within.”
The song “Save The World” is part of the Donovan album “Ritual Groove”, but is also available as a single on iTunes.
